Women have proven the value they bring to the table, levelling the playing field

As part of this year’s Women’s History Month celebration, Citihub Consulting talked to some of its personnel about the space they occupy, as women, in the traditionally male-dominated finance technology industry. Closing out the 2020 campaign is Kim Halston, Chief Operating Officer, North America.

What drew you to work in finance technology industry?

Technology in a financial landscape is, and continues to be, on the cutting edge.  I knew this would offer opportunities for me that other industries may not provide, as technology is constantly evolving, therefore I would always be challenged.

“In the finance technology industry, female executives currently make up ~19% of executive committees.”

Over the years, what changes have you seen in the finance technology industry relating to women’s contributions, roles and leadership? What do you think were the drivers?

I’ve seen the most significant changes in the last 10 years.  Many young women are now drawn to an education in the STEM fields. There is a movement supported by C-Level executives, both men and women, to mentor and offer women employment opportunities in these fields.  Awareness to such opportunities has greatly increased due to the wide-spread media outlets available.

What are the merits of being a woman in this industry?

In the finance technology industry, female executives currently make up ~19% of the executive panels. However, many women have proven the value they bring to the table, levelling the playing field. Notable examples include Safra Catz, CEO from Oracle, and Ruth Porat, CFO from Google. They both have demonstrated a unique grasp and understanding of what the future holds for technology and how it applies to real life.

How has Citihub Consulting supported you, as a woman, in your career?

Citihub Consulting has allowed me many opportunities to provide a female perspective – becoming a member of their Global Operations Board; performing as the lead for their North American Mentor program; and as an active member of their Diversity Group.  These platforms are an integral part of Citihub Consulting’s investment into ensuring we have an inclusive work environment.
